For example, beginning April 1 and running through the end of the month, the "Put the Phone Away or Pay" initiative will target drivers who talk on handheld cellphones or send texts while driving, police said.
"Motorists are reminded that distracted driving includes any activity that diverts attention from driving, including eating and drinking, talking to people in your vehicle, fiddling with the stereo, entertainment or navigation system; anything that takes your attention away from the task of safe driving," police said.
The grant funding is authorized to be used until Sept. 30, 2024.
