Beware Of School Zone Construction As New Year Starts In Lacey
Work at the intersection of Haines and Western at Manchester was supposed to be done before school started, but delays prevented that.

LACEY, NJ — With the new school year starting in Lacey, local police are warning drivers to be vigilant, especially as construction at one of the town's busiest intersections is still not finished.
Construction at the intersection of Haines Street and Western Boulevard at Manchester Avenue was supposed to have been finished before the school year, delays for several pieces of infrastructure that have yet to be delivered caused it to fall short.
That intersection is often congested especially during school hours, and the project is intended to help alleviate some of that congestion.

But in the meantime, the police department "is actively working with county officials and contractors to provide a safe passage for pedestrian school traffic including the use of temporary barricades to separate construction from the walking path," they said.
Police ask that pedestrians and drivers be aware of the increased traffic volume change during peak times.

"While we have placed message boards along the school route and will have increased patrol for distracted drivers, help us by doing your part this school year," police said. "Be alert and watch for slow or stopped traffic. Watch for our Crossing Guards in the intersections who are providing a safe pedestrian pathway for our students. Please remember that seatbelts are required, cell phones should not be used and speeding in a school zone is unsafe, maybe even careless."
