Cigarette Was The Cause Of Lacey Trash Cans Fire

Blaze occurred in the early morning hours of New Year's Day, police chief says

LACEY TOWNSHIP, NJ - A discarded cigarette was the cause of a blaze that set two trash cans on fire in the backyard of a Forked River home on New Year's Day, Police Chief Michael C. DiBella said.

Officers Martin Julian, Michael Baldasari, and Scott Keefe responded to the 700 block of Bermuda Drive at 2:03 a.m. on a report of a trash can on fire in the backyard of the residence. The Forked River Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the blaze, which was limited to two garbage cans in the rear of the residence, the chief said.

It was determined that the fire began from a discarded cigarette in one of the garbage cans. The damage caused by the fire is estimated at approximately $60, DiBella said.
