LACEY, NJ — As the program celebrates its 25th anniversary, the Lacey Township Police Department has announced the official return of the "Cop Card" program.

It officially began on Feb. 8, with cards given out to local businesses in and around Lacey where kids can find and collect them. Lacey police are sharing where you can find the cards on their Facebook page. Kids who collect all the cards will be eligible for prizes and are encouraged to attend Meet the Officer Day on March 22, 2025 at the Lacey Township Middle School.

The program first started 25 years ago, in 2000. There have been seven additional campaigns since.

"This program comes highly regarded by members of the public as our goal is to familiarize residents, both children and adults alike, with those who serve the Township of Lacey," police said. "Positive interactions with police officers will not only provide a sense of comfort to children, but also provide them with the 'humanization' of our officers."

The campaign has bridged the gap between residents and officers, police said, and has even inspired children to follow a career in law enforcement.

"Many times, parents and children may feel intimidated by the presence of a police officer, without realizing that we, too, live in this town, and take great pride in ensuring the protection of our residents," police said. "A strong sense of transparency and trust in those who take an oath to serve and protect your community is of most importance."

Since the first campaign, the faces of Lacey have changed. Police said that generally, the career of a law enforcement officer here in New Jersey is 25 years of service, so there are many officers that residents may not recognize. Also, the town has grown in population since then.

"As LTPD is committed to serving this community with honor and integrity, we are determined to maintain the strong relationship with the children and parents of Lacey Township," police said.
