Family Mourns 'Two Beautiful Souls' Killed In Lacey Double Murder-Suicide

A GoFundMe page Has Been Set Up For The Family Of Kim Dunphey. She And Her 7-Year-old Son Were Killed By Her Husband, Authorities Say.

The loved ones of a mother and son who were tragically killed Wednesday in a suspected double murder-suicide in Lacey Township have started an online fundraising campaign to help pay for funeral expenses.

Kimberley Dunphey and her 7-year-old son Owen Scott were killed at their Nautilus Boulevard home. Authorities allege Dunphey's husband, Gregg Scott, killed them, then killed himself. It was the apparent result of a marital dispute, authorities said.

Dunphey would have celebrated her 49th birthday on Aug. 18. Her son Owen turned 7 on March 25.

"It is with deep sadness to have to reach out on behalf of a family who is beyond devastated at the loss of their loved ones in such a senseless, horrific, and sudden tragedy," the GoFundMe page said. "Kim Dunphey and her 7-year old son Owen were brutally murdered by an immediate family member Wednesday afternoon in their home in Lacey. Diane, John and Doug (Kim’s mother and 2 brothers) are beyond devastated and are struggling to deal with this loss."

"Anyone who knew Kim knew her life revolved around her son," the page states. "As the only grandchild/nephew in the family, Owen was always showered with attention and love. Two beautiful souls with so much life to live taken from us way to soon."

Scott was an employee of the Toms River Regional School District and was well-regarded by his co-workers, the school board's attorney confirmed Friday.

The family had no funds set aside for funeral expenses, the page, which has a $20,000 fundraising goal, says.

"Please keep this family in your prayers and thank you in advance for all your generosity and support," the post states.

Both Kim and Owen died of blunt force injuries, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office. Scott also killed the family dog.
