Forked River Man Sold Stolen Vehicle To Scrap Company: Police
A vehicle that was reported stolen from a Sunrise Beach home in Lacey was sold to a scrap company by a Forked River man, Lacey police said.
LACEY, NJ — A car that was reported stolen from a Sunrise Beach home in Lacey was sold to a scrap company by a Forked River man, Lacey police said.
The police department's month-long investigation began on June 18 when a Sunrise Beach resident reported that a vehicle was stolen from his home.
The investigation revealed that Bernard Kappen, of Forked River sold the vehicle to a scrap company without the owner’s knowledge, police said.

Detectives executed a search warrant at Kappen’s home on Hemlock Lane where they found evidence of the theft, police said.
Kappen was charged with theft by unlawful taking.

Kappen was arrested Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. and taken to the Ocean County Correctional Facility in accordance with bail reform.
