Half-Blind Senior Dog Found Wandering The Streets Now Safe At Popcorn Park

Dog was picked up in the dark in mid-October.

Corky was a dog of the streets. Not by his own choosing, but by his owner's.

The 13-year-old Bichon dog was half-blind dodging cars when he was picked up in mid-October, out in the cold. He was so infested with fleas he was literally scratching his skin off. His owner didn't keep him indoors.

"At 13, a dog should not be sick, hungry, itchy, infected and in pain," according to a post on the Associated Humane Societies'Popcorn Park Facebook page. "But at 13, that is the life that Corky was living."

Corky was taken to Popcorn Park.

"He was malnourished, suffering with an upper respiratory infection and infections of the skin, eyes and ears," the post states. "Corky had lost all of his hair and his skin was red, inflamed, and so irritated that he never stopped scratching and crying. Corky is blind in one eye as well. Even in this condition, when Corky was taken out of the carrier that he came in, he held his head high and began wagging his tail at the first person that touched him."

Corky was given a long list of medications, medicated baths for his badly damaged skin and a plan to keep him as comfortable as possible while he heals.

Popcorn Park officials will never let Corky go back to his former owners.

"Once we found out how Corky's owners were and contacted the SPCA who investigated the case, Corky's owners decided to surrender him," the post states.

Corky's recovery will take some time and the park's Res-Q-Fund has been stretched quite then this year, because of the number of neglect and cruelty cases.

If you can donate to the Res-Q Fund to help with the medical expenses of Corky and so many others, please text HumaneHelp to 41444 or click here:http://www.ahscares.org/shop/item.asp?itemid=28&catid=5

"Once the sweet, loving, and affectionate Corky is all healed, he will be looking for a home where he can live out his life in peace and comfort, just as he should. In the meantime, please keep Corky in your thoughts and prayers and thank you, as always, for your support.
