Lacey Christmas Parade Canceled Due To Coronavirus Concerns

LACEY, NJ—Lacey canceled the township's and Elks’ annual Christmas Parade because the coronavirus. Township officials cited Gov. Phil Murphy’s recent executive orders on gathering limitations as cause for cancellation.
“We felt it was in the best interest of public health and safety to cancel the parade this year,” Township Administrator Veronica Laureigh said Thursday.

Murphy announced Monday that the state will reduce limits on gatherings because coronavirus cases have risen sharply. New Jersey limited indoor gatherings from 25 to 10 people on Tuesday and outdoor gatherings from 500 to 150 people beginning Nov. 23.
The Ocean County Health Department announced 398 new coronavirus cases Thursday as the county total reached 19,132 active cases.

The OCHD has reported 549 cases and 12 coronavirus deaths in Lacey since the pandemic began.
