LACEY, NJ — For 10 years, Shawn Petrillo wanted to start his own t-shirt company. It wasn't until January that his wife, Kayti, decided to "one up the idea." She suggested they expand on the idea with a full line focusing on alternative lifestyle wear such as fitness, extreme sports and other outdoor activities.

Thus, Idols and Anchors Apparel was born. The company, which is run completely online from their Lacey home, launched in March.

The Petrillos put a unique spin on their company. They converted a trailer into a "mobile shop" hitched to the back of their pickup truck. While customers can place their orders online, the Petrillo's come to them with a diverse lineup of clothes.

"The objective behind that is to encourage people to live their best life, step out of their comfort level, so we could come to them while they're living their best life," Kayti said.

The mobile shop idea is a unique feature of Idols and Anchors Apparel.

Kayti's own personal philosophy spawned the company's name. According to Kayti, an idol is a person that is loved, admired or revered — someone who anchors you down when you're ready to jump ship.
