Lacey Police Charge Bayville Man With Drunk Driving, Possession Of Heroin After Crash

John R. Gerlich also had four outstanding warrants, police chief said.

Lacey police arrested a Bayville man and charged him with drunk driving and possession of heroin after a one-car crash at 11:43 a.m. on June 18 near Vaughn Avenue in Forked River, Police Chief Michael C. DiBella said.

Officers Brian Holt, Darrell Nick and Noah Schaffer responded to the scene. They arrested John R. Gerlich, 40, Sloop Creek Road for driving under the influence, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia, the chief said.

Gerlich was also charged with reckless driving, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, failure to maintain lane, driving with a suspended license and using a cell phone while driving, the chief said.

He is lodged in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River to wait for a bail hearing. His vehicle was impounded pursuant to John's Law.

The first warrant was for $2,318.15 from the Ocean County Sheriff's Department; the second was for $2,500 from the Brick Township Municipal Court; the third was a $250 from Middletown Municipal Court and the fourth was from $250, also from Middletown, DiBella said.
