Lacey Police Charge Brick Man Found Sleeping In Car With DWI

Arrest took place at the Wawa in Forked River, police chief says

LACEY TOWNSHIP, NJ - Lacey police recently arrested a Brick man and charged him with drunk driving after they found him sleeping behind the wheel of his vehicle at the Wawa store on Route 9 South, Police Chief Michael C. DiBella said.

Officers Michael Baldasari and Scott Keefe were dispatched to the store on Taylor Lane and Route 9 South in Forked River at 7:33 p.m. on Aug. 19 to investigate. They arrested Paul V. Hikade, 53, of Brick Township.

He was taken to police headquarters, where he was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to breath testing, reckless driving and driving with an open container of alcohol, DiBella said.

His vehicle was impounded pursuant to John’s Law, the chief said.
