Caroline Liebmann, a Lacey Township native and graduate of the Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Science (MATES), received the Garden Club of LBI’s 2024 scholarship. Her selection marks a continued legacy of MATES students earning the prestigious award. She continues her studies at King’s College in Pennsylvania, where she is pursuing a dual-degree program in environmental science and environmental engineering.

Caroline’s passion for environmental research is already well-established at such a young age. The Forked River resident has extracted and quantified microplastics from Barnegat Bay, presenting her findings at Stockton University, and has created a methodology for isolating microplastics from local beaches. She has also served the community through Project Terrapin and Clean Ocean Action, where she presented scientific insights and taught younger students about marine conservation.

In addition to her environmental work, Carolinewas a National Honor Society inductee and a commended student in the National Merit Scholarship Program. She served as drum major for her high school band for two years, guiding rehearsals and mentoring new musicians.

With a strong foundation in science, service and leadership, Caroline is well-prepared to design solutions that promote environmental health and sustainability in the years ahead.

The future is certainly looking bright in Lacey! If you know another Star Student making an impact, nominate them today to be featured on Patch!
