Lacey's Urban Schack Combines Unique Artisan Shops

LACEY, NJ — Urban Schack Artisan Shoppes was conceived during a trip to Israel in December. The idea to father the artisan community and small, creative business owners together finally reached Lacey, with the grand opening earlier this month.

The founders Angelsea "Angie" Urban, her husband Steve, Ed Schack and his wife Ellen created the Urban Schack to support the artisan community. The Urban-own The Rooted Tree, a business focused on artisanal products and the Schack's own The Believe Company, which specializes in skincare products. The Schack's also own and operate EEC Cosmetics they established in 2000, according to their website.

At the grand opening, Urban Schack offered artisan demonstrations, food trucks, puppy adoptions and live music.

"During our grand opening celebration, we estimated 600 people came to visit," Angelsea Urban said. "We debuted our Signature Blend of artisan coffee and opened the Urban Schack Coffee Shop in the heart of it all."

The Urban Schack is a collective of artisan shops. There are shops for jewelry, hard carved figures, natural skincare products, cookies, leather products, men's grooming products, handmade jams and artwork. They recently established a coffee shop, which has been a hit with locals, according to Angelsea Urban, manager of the media and marketing for Urban Schack.

Their Signature Blend of artisan coffee is a custom blend of 5 different coffee beans from around the world such as Indonesia, South and Central America. The Urban Schack overs cold brew coffee, espresso-based beverages and the popular iced almond milk latte with vanilla, as well a wide variety of coffee drinks.

"Customers say it's a unique shop to the area and people love it even more with the new coffee," said Jimi DeLucci, an employee at the Urban Schack Artisan Shoppe.

Urban Schack is located at 111 N. Main Street in Forked River. They are open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. They can be reached at 732-232-3650.
