Lyra Stays True To Herself: Lacey Star Student
We all know students who excel in academic, fine arts or volunteer service. Here's one local resident who is having an impact in Lacey.

LACEY, NJ — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.
This submission comes from Laura who nominated Lyra 6th grade of Lacey. Laura is Lyra's mother.

How do you know the star local student?
She’s my child
Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
After going through so many challenges in her young life of only 11 years, she has faced adversity in so many ways and remains unchanged. At an early age she was called a hippy for always seeking peace and never straying from being herself regardless of being the odd man out, bullies, hardships, etc. I believe she deserves to be recognized because I’d like her to see that there is still good out there! At 11, our children are trying to find themselves and we don’t want them to be hardened by experiences but rather, persevere. There’s so many bad things we hear about in schools now that the good, simply is lost in translations. She has faced bullies for being different and liking different things, and while she pushes ahead and remains herself, these things do hurt and affect our children’s lives. I’d like her to be recognized for being true to herself because in all of this, that is what is important! That’s what makes her special!
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?
That she is just like everyone else! No better, no worse. Just an 11 year old kid trying to find her way and figure out who she is. She’s special in her own way, as we all are . And that while she accepts herself for being different, we should all accept each other for our differences also! That is what she does everyday for those around her! We can all learn from her!
Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Lyra!
