Nuclear Regulatory Commission To Host Oyster Creek Meeting In Lacey

The September meeting will discuss Oyster Creek's License Termination Plan.

LACEY, NJ — The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) will hold a public meeting on the Oyster Creek power plant next month in Lacey.

The purpose of the meeting, according to the NRC, is to discuss the license termination plan and to gather public comment.

The plan explains the progression of the decommissioning process, including demolishing buildings and remediation of residual radioactivity.

"The purpose of this meeting is for NRC staff to meet directly with individuals to receive comments from participants on specific NRC decisions and actions to ensure that NRC staff understands their views and concerns," the meeting notice reads

It will be held Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. in the Lacey Township Municipal Building. A web option will be available. It can be found here.

Holtec International, which is in charge of decommissioning the plant, hopes to build four smaller nuclear reactors on the site. After building these reactors, the site would have enough land leftover to install a solar energy capture plant, officials said.
