Oyster Creek To Receive Reduction in Emergency Planning

Oyster Creek, the inactive nuclear power plant, was approved for a reduction in emergency planning by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

LACEY, NJ - The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has granted a reduction in emergency planning for the Oyster Creek Nuclear Plant, according the a release from the NRC. Exelon, who own Oyster Bay, will be able to reduce the emergency planning on September 17, 2019.

The proposed changes will allow Exelon to reduce emergency planning change the plant’s emergency protocol to reflect the inactivity of the plant.

A year must go by from the final day of operation, September 17, 2018, for the changes to go into effect is based on the analysis from Exelon on the cooling of the spent fuel.
