Pedestrian Flown To Jersey Shore Medical Center After Route 9 Accident

Accident happened Sunday night at the intersection with Taylor Lane.

An unidentified pedestrian was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center after being struck by a car Sunday night while trying to cross Route 9, Police Chief Michael C. DiBella said.

Officers Michael Verwey and Detective Adam Ewart responded to the 7:18 p.m accident. The 42-year-old pedestrian was hit after attempting to cross from the east side of Route 9 when struck by a car driven by Patricia Baran, 60, Glen Falls, New York. Baran was heading northbound at the time of the 7:18 p.m. accident.

Baran was not injured and showed no signs of impairment, DiBella said.

Traffic was shut down in the Lakeside Drive South and Parkers Point Boulevard area for three hours, the chief said.

The accident is under investigation by the Lacey Township Police Accident Investigative Unit, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and the Ocean County Crime Scene Unit.
