PHOTOS: Lacey Cub Scouts Compete in Annual Pinewood Derby

Approximately 85 boys from Lacey's Cub Scout Pack 35 designed and raced wooden cars in the 2012 Pinewood Derby

Approximately 85 boys from Cub Scout Pack 35 participated in the Pinewood Derby on Saturday at the Lanoka Harbor Firehouse.

Every year, cub scouts work to build wooden racecars for the derby. Pack 35 was split into dens according to their rank—Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos I and Webelos II.

The scouts in each rank race against each other and the final race is comprised of the top three from each group. There was a first, second, third and fourth place awarded in each den.

The winner is determined by an electronic bar that measures the cars as they cross the finish line.

The Lacey Policeman’s Benevolent Association sponsored the event while local businesses donated prizes that were presented to the winners at the end of the derby. Winners also advance to compete at the district level.
