Police Report 2 More Burglaries, Continue Investigations

Police reported two more house burglaries this week.

On Oct. 8, a Pensacola Road home was forcibly entered sometime from 4:30 to 11:30 p.m. The resident reported that someone stole a safe containing a large sum of money. Entry was made through a back bedroom window. Police are not releasing the amount stolen.

Between Oct. 1 and Oct. 8, $500 worth of jewelry was stolen from a jewelry box inside of a Nautilus Boulevard home. There was no sign of forced entry.

“The police department continues to actively investigate burglaries which have occurred over the last few weeks in Lacey Township,” Committeeman Gary Quinn said.

Police have reported 14 homes throughout the township have been burglarized, he said. Most of the entries are during the daytime hours.

Four local adults have been arrested in relation to six of the burglaries, Quinn said.

“Additional information is expected to lead to the arrest for several of the other burglaries,” he said. “Residents are urged to keep their homes and their vehicles locked.”

Lt. Scott Tirella provided the following information: 

Oct. 4
James Cort, 50, of Forked River was charged with theft after he asked the cashier at 7-Eleven located on Route 9 for cigarettes. Cort allegedly took the carton of cigarettes valued at $79.80. He was sent to Ocean County jail with bail set at $2,500. 

Cort was also charged with stealing money from a woman’s pocket book at ShopRite on Sept. 29.

Oct. 3
Veronica Conklin, 51, of Forked River was charged with shoplifting 17 items valued at a total of $98.17 from Walmart. 

Oct. 7
Police recovered two plastic boxes in a wooded area off of Route 539. The boxes contained miscellaneous radio equipment belonging to the U.S. Army. The equipment, valued at more than $40,000, was stolen from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in May. The equipment was standard radio equipment and not sensitive.
