Prison For NJ Ex-Elementary Principal Caught With Child Porn
Lanoka Harbor's John Mangan had hundreds of images of children being sexually abused; he previously assaulted a teenager as a principal.
LACEY, NJ — A former elementary school principal and repeat sex offender from Lanoka Harbor was sentenced to federal prison for possessing more than 250 images of children being sexually abused, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.
John Mangan, 79, was sentenced to 120 months in prison for one count of possession of child pornography, Acting U.S. Attorney and Special Attorney Alina Habba said. Mangan was also sentenced to a five-year term of supervised release and ordered to pay restitution to his victims.
His Lanoka Harbor home was searched by the Department of Homeland Security on Oct. 29, 2024, officials said. There, they found a Samsung Galaxy Note 10 cellphone with more than 250 images of children being sexually abused, authorities said.

Mangan was previously convicted in 1997 for sexual assault of a 15-year-old, according to the New Jersey Department of Education and news reports from the time. At this time, Mangan was an elementary school principal in Ringwood; he was sentenced to four years in state prison.
Mangan also has a previous federal conviction for possession of child pornography, according to court documents.
