Recreation Department Offers Cooking Workshops and More

Programs from cooking to volleyball and basketball are being offered this winter

The Lacey Township Recreation Department is launching a handful of programs for all ages.

According to Committeeman David Most, Recreation Director James Wioland is working to make the department self-sustaining and has so far saved 38 percent in its budget.

Chef Joe Jakositz will lead an introduction to the Culinary Arts course.

The Recreation Department is partnering with the Murray Grove Retreat and Renewal Center for three workshops throughout the winter.

“This series of culinary explorations will provide cooking enthusiasts with the hands on experience under the supervision of our chef instructor,” Wioland said.

Basic Knife Skills: participants will learn which knives are used for which cuts, knife safety, sharpening and caring for your knives and more.

The program will be offered on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 6:30 p.m.

Registration is $40 and participants should bring their own knife and cutting board.

Homemade Soups: This class will teach participants how to prepare their own homemade soups.

It will be offered on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 6:30 p.m. and will take place at Murray Grove.

Registration is $42 and participants should bring their own knife and cutting board.

Seafood Night: The instructor will teach participants how to break down a whole fish into portions and the multiple techniques used in cooking fish.

The program will be offered on Wednesday, March 7 at 6:30 p.m. at Murray Grove. Registration is $45 and participants should bring their own knife and cutting board.

Additional upcoming programs:

Women’s Recreational Volleyball

Pick-up volleyball games will be played on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Lacey Township Middle School Gymnasium.

Women must be 18 years of age and older to participate. Registration is $15.

Men’s Open Basketball

Pick-up basketball games will be played on Tuesday Evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Lacey Township Middle School Gymnasium.

Men must be 18 years of age and older to participate. Registration is $15.

Someone Special & Me Yoga

This 45-minute long class will stimulate children’s literature along with an activity. It will be offered every Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m., Jan. 20 through March 9 and is for ages between two and five years old.

Kids and Teen Yoga

This class will enhance flexibility, strength, coordination, body awareness, concentration, sense of calmness and relaxation.

Grades one through four will meet on Mondays from Jan. 23 to March 26 from 5:15 to 6 p.m. Grades five through eight will meet for eight Thursdays from Jan. 19 to March 8 from 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. Registration is $65.

Adult Yoga/Pilates Fusion

This class will help participants with fitness, balance and stamina from Jan. 23 to March 26. The program will be offered on Mondays from 6 to 6:45 p.m. Registration is $65 and the program is available to residents 16 years of age and older.
