LACEY, NJ — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Grace Lurman who nominated Havana of Lacey. Lurman and Havana are friends.

How do you know the star local student?

Friend

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Havana has displayed her fiery ambition over these last two years here at LTHS and I believe it should be recognized. She’s a sophomore in the LAH academy, which means she takes her academics very seriously, and she actually won first place her freshman year in science fair. She’s a very competitive young woman and is really great at filling up a room. She’s also shown her passion for this school outside the classroom, winning first place in retail merchandising in DECA her first time, and following up on her promise to audition for the school play, in which she got a lead dancer. Her freshman year she told me she was thinking of writing a poetry book and I was blown away with her words, truly. I think her ability to adapt to whatever is thrown at her is what I noticed first, and I think she has the opportunity to become something really special.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

I want them to know her confidence. She’s very bright and witty for her age and she carries herself in a very mature manner. She could fill up a room with her voice, make them laugh, make them cry. You’d wonder what’s made her so happy because she’s always smiling.

Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Havana!
