Spring Oak In Lacey Seeks Donations For "Adopt A Senior" Program

Spring Oak Assisted Living of Forked River is in need of toiletries and clothes for their annual "Adopt a Senior" program.

LACEY, NJ - Spring Oak Assisted Living of Forked River is seeking toiletries and clothes for their annual “Adopt a Senior” program.

During an ordinary year, "Adopt a Senior" gift bags filled with toiletries and clothes would be given out at a holiday party for residents and their families, complete with food, entertainment and plenty of Santa hats.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the holiday party this year will be exclusive to residents and staff, according to RuthAnn White, the Activities Director of Spring Oak Assisted Living of Forked River.

“With no family coming in and with them not being able to go out, I’m trying to make it even more extra special for them,” White said.

White said people can leave Spring Oak to celebrate the holidays with their family, but when they return they will need to quarantine alone in their room for 14 days, which can be difficult for many older residents.

The “Adopt a Senior” program is seeking toiletries like toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner and soaps, and clothes for both men and women, including colorful t-shirts, long sleeve shirts, sweatpants, regular socks and non-slipping socks.

Donations can be brought to Spring Oak Assisted Living at 601 Main St. in Lanoka Harbor by Dec. 12.

While most residents have families to drop off gifts for them around the holidays, White said a few people do not and they will only receive gifts through their “Adopt a Senior” program.

“I’m still looking for more things so that I can give those other people a little something also,” White said.
