VIDEO: Bagpipe Band Brings a Taste of Ireland to the German Butcher

The Ocean County Emerald Society performed at Lacey schools and the Forked River German Butcher in honor of St. Patrick's Day

A crowd of all ages gathered around to hear the traditional sound of bagpipes and drums this afternoon at the in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.

“That was really fun today,” said Wolfgang Barsch, owner of the butcher shop, which has been in town for more than 40 years. “I really enjoyed that.”

The Ocean County Emerald Society made stops throughout Lacey Township, including the elementary schools, to perform for the holiday. The band, whose members were all Lacey residents, has been performing at the German Butcher for more than eight years, Barsch said.

The group is a fraternal and social organization made up of law enforcement officers and firefighters throughout the county. With the mission of keeping their Irish culture, spirit and pride alive in America, the group participates in parades, festivals and social gatherings.
