'Concerning' Increase In Dog Bites In Lawrence Township, Officials Say
Most incidents occur at community parks where off-leash violations are rampant, officials said.

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ — Officials in Lawrence Township are reporting a “concerning” rise in dog bite incidents in the township.
Most incidents occur at community parks where officials have noted off-leash violations committed by pet owners.
“Township Ordinance 89-3 requires all dogs to be on a leash (maximum 6 feet) in all public spaces unless in designated dog runs,” township officials said.

They are reminding residents that:
- No off-leash dogs are allowed in regular township parks
- Leashes are required on all public property
- No exceptions for "well-trained" dogs
According to the ordinance, allowing dogs to run about the parks without a leash will invite penalties:

- First offense, minimum $50.
- Second offense, the minimum penalty is $100.
- Third offense for allowing a dog to run at large: court action to have dog impounded for a period of 15 days at the owner's expense, a minimum $500 fine, 30 days imprisonment, or both, in addition to court costs.
“The leash requirement protects everyone - other residents, children, pets, and your own dog,” officials said.
