The 90-year-old Lawrence Township man was rushed to a local hospital following the freak accident in the 1700 block of Brunswick Pike Wednesday afternoon.

An elderly Lawrence Township resident was rushed to a local hospital after he somehow became trapped under his own ride-on lawnmower Wednesday afternoon (May 16).

Police said the engine and blades of the lawnmower were not operating at the time of the accident, which occurred behind a home in the 1700 block of Brunswick Pike (Business Route 1).

Township police, emergency medical personnel and firefighters raced to the scene about 3:45 p.m. after receiving a report that the 90-year-old man was pinned beneath the lawnmower.

The man was freed and rushed by ambulance to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton. Police said his injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.

Exactly how the man came to be under the lawnmower was unclear. Emergency personnel who were at the scene said it was possible the man was pushing the lawnmower up an incline when he fell and the machine rolled back over top of him.
