Kownacki Declared Winner Over Ramos in Council Race

If Ramos wants to appeal, he has until Nov. 20 to do so.

Democrat James S. Kownacki has been declared the winner of the second seat on Lawrenceville Council.

The Mercer County Board of Elections opened and counted the absentee and provisional ballots over the weekend. Kownacki ended up with 4,282 votes and Republican hopeful ended up with 4,248 votes.

Should Ramos decide to request a recount, he would have to file an appeal by Nov. 20, according to a representative from the Mercer County Clerk's Office.

It was a close race and too close to call for days after the election because only 30 votes separated Kownacki and Ramos by the time the polls closed on election day.

Four candidates were vying for two seats on Council: Democratic incumbents Kownacki and Stephen Brame and Republican challengers Ramos and Glenn Collins

Brame kept his seat with 4,348 votes. Collins received the lowest vote count, 4,196 votes.
