Lawrence Firefighters Restore Old Glory on Flag Day

Lawrence Township firefighters today - Flag Day - helped install two new halyards on the flagpole that stands in front of Morris Hall.

Today is Flag Day, which commemorates the adoption of the original 13-star version of the American flag by the Second Continental Congress on June 14, 1777.

Lawrence Township firefighters honored Old Glory this morning by helping install two new halyards on the flagpole that stands in front of . The flagpole had not been used since its old ropes snapped during Hurricane Irene last year, according to Morris Hall maintenance staff.

Lawrence Township’s daytime duty crew of career firefighters raised the ladder of Telesquirt 22 truck to reach the tip of the flagpole. In addition to being a way to celebrate Flag Day locally, firefighters said it afforded them an opportunity to train on aerial operations and apparatus placement.

Once the new halyards were in place, a new flag was raised and the Stars and Stripes once again flew over Morris Hall’s St. Mary's Assisted and Residential Living and St. Joseph's Skilled Nursing Center.
