May 18: Lukoil of Lawrenceville, 1 vs. Carroll’s Christmas Tree Farm, 0
In what was one the most exciting games of the season, Lukoil scored the only run in the bottom of the seventh inning for a dramatic walk-off victory. Ryan Monaghan hit a solid single to left with two outs to plate Matt Gunton from second base for the game-winner. Gunton and Ean Dauer combined on seven innings of shutout pitching. Gunton struck out 11 in four innings and pitched out of trouble in three of them. Carroll’s Tree Farm had two on in the first, three in the second, and two in the third, but Gunton stranded all of them with strikeouts to end the threats. Tree Farm had its best chance to score when Jack O’Reilly hit a double to right with one out in the seventh but Mark Boccanfuso was cut down at the plate when Ethan Coleman threw perfectly to the cut-off man, Justin Featherston, who turned and fired home to Brandon West who applied the tag.  Â
