In January, Paul Tweedly, the owner of the acclaimed joint, said he wasselling the business “due to continued health problems.”

The business was sold to Patrick and Deb, who then did some work on the storefront. During that time, several community members stopped by to check in.

“We have been blown away by how many people stopped in as we were working on the store. We’d also like to thank Paul & Janice Tweedly for their support and guidance! They will be at the store and help us with the transition so please stop by and say hello,” the new owners said on Facebook.

Although under new ownership, the menu and taste of the food will be the same, Patrick and Deb said.

“Paul and Janice have worked with us to acquire the same vendors and products their customers enjoy,” the new owners said. “All of the former Captain Paul’s staff were offered their jobs back for this season and have returned.”

Patrick and Deb said they were committed to “continuing and building upon the legacy of what Captain Paul’s Firehouse Dogs stands for and what it means to the community.”

CPFD first opened in 2009, after Tweedly retired from the Trenton Fire Department as a captain after 26 years of service. The hot dog stand soon became popular among local police and fire departments and members of the military and first responders.

A Maltese cross in the center of the awning was in memory of firemen who lost their lives on 9/11.

Over the years, Captain Paul’s became in integral part of the community as they hosted several fundraisers.

Some of the popular dishes on their menu include the Trooper, Boot Camp, Devil Dog, Combat Veteran, Stormin Norman, Arlington, Delta Force, and Army Ranger among a whole list of delicacies.
