Lawrence Township to Celebrate Arbor Day on Friday

Township officials will be on hand at Lawrenceville Elementary School on Friday, April 27, to plant a tree in honor of Arbor Day.

Lawrence Township will celebrate Arbor Day on Friday, April 27, at 10 a.m. 

The event will take place at the Lawrenceville Elementary School located at 40 Craven Lane. The township has recognized Arbor Day with tree planting activities every year since 1996.

A tree will be planted by the Lawrence Township Public Works Department at the Lawrenceville Elementary School. It will provide shade for the playing field.

The Lawrence Township Council issued a Proclamation recognizing Arbor Day that will be presented to the Lawrenceville Elementary School children.

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has been promoting Arbor Day since 1949. In that year, the New Jersey legislature designated the last Friday in April as the official day to honor trees and the people who take care of them.

The tree selected for the planting is a Village Green Zelkova. Zelkovas are well suited to residential streets and parks.

The Lawrence Township Shade Tree Advisory Committee was created by the township council to provide advice on street tree matters. The committee meets the fourth Monday of each month.
