Letter to the Editor: Student Endorses Groeger for School Board
The writer is Lawrence High School student Mariefred Evans.

To the Editor:
I am a student at Lawrence High School. As you probably know, students, who are directly affected by the outcome of school board elections, are not allowed to vote in the elections. I hope you will allow me a moment to voice my opinion on one of the candidates who I have come to know and respect.
Jo Ann Groeger was a teacher in Lawrence public schools for many years. In her last year of teaching, she was my Health and Physical Education teacher in Lawrence Middle School. She was always very nice, but also tough when she had to be, which gained the respect of all. The connection she had with her students resulted in her becoming the favorite teacher of many. She also coached many middle and high school teams, which tells me that she is a dedicated teacher and wants the best for all her students.

Mrs. Groeger is also the mother of three kids, all graduates of our school system, who are successful in their adult lives and making a difference in their communities. Her husband, Mr. Groeger, is a proud graduate of Lawrence also and greatly involved in the community. On top of all that, Mrs. Groeger is a long-time Lawrence resident. Mrs. Groeger brings to her school board position something that none of the others do, the three-way perspective of being a resident, a parent and a teacher. Due to this advantage, I believe she understands what our schools could benefit from the most.
I strongly believe Mrs. Groeger should be re-elected to the school board to continue what she started. She is a hard working woman with amazing ideas who can hear all sides. I hope you will vote for her on April 17th; I would if I could!
