National Infant Immunization Week Begins Today

The week of April 21 is National Infant Immunization Week, and Mercer County Executive Brian Hughes is taking the opportunity to remind residents of the life-saving importance of vaccinating their children.

“When you vaccinate your infant, you not only keep your child safe, but the Mercer County community as well,” Hughes said.  “Current vaccinations prevent the spread of 14 infectious diseases, and have saved countless lives.  Just as we eliminated smallpox, if parents continue to vaccinate their children by the recommended age of 2, we can eliminate countless more childhood diseases.”

Hughes suggests that parents of non-vaccinated children honor the spirit of the week by scheduling an appointment with their pediatrician.  “With a simple trip to the doctor you can protect your child and help keep Mercer County a safe and healthy place to live.”
