School Board Meeting Minutes Available for Review

During their Dec. 12 meeting, Lawrence Township Board of Education members accepted the resignation of a principal and fired an employee who has been accused of sex crimes.

, during the meeting the board accepted the resignation of David Roman from the position of principal of the Lower School (Grades 9 and 10) of Lawrence High School. Roman was hired on Nov. 21 by the Hazlet Township Board of Education to serve as that school district’s new assistant superintendent, effective Jan. 1, 2012.   

Roman joined the Lawrence Township school district in 2006 when he was appointed as principal of the high school. He held that position until he was moved to principal of Grades 9 and 10 at the start of the current school year when , and Jonathan Dauber (previously principal at Lawrence Intermediate School) was named principal for Grades 11 and 12.

The assistant principal of the LHS Lower School, David Milinowicz, will serve as acting principal through June 30. His salary will remain as previously approved for the 2011-2012 school year.

Milinowicz has over 41 years of experience in education and has been an assistant principal at LHS for the past 14 years. Athletic Director Ken Mason and Supervisor of Guidance Dana Karas will assistant Milinowicz with Lower School operations, district officials have said.

During the meeting, as previously indicated on the meeting agenda, the board also terminated the employment of Joseph Miller, in November on criminal charges alleging he molested a 12-year-old boy over the summer.

Following Miller’s arrest, Lawrence Township Public Schools Superintendent Crystal Lovell said Miller had been suspended with pay and ordered to have no access to schools, pending the outcome of the criminal charges against him.

Among the other actions taken by the board during the meeting, according to the minutes, was the approval of a $359,150 bid contract with WPCS International of Trenton for the installation of a fiber optic network linking the district’s schools.
