Safe Stolen in Afternoon Burglary on Helen Avenue

In addition to the safe - containing jewlery and personal papers - some electronics were stolen during Monday afternoon's burglary on Helen Avenue, according to Lawrence Township police, who are still looking into Monday's pre-dawn burglary at Radio Shack

An estimated $1,000 worth of property – including electronics and a small safe containing jewelry and personal papers – was stolen from a home on Helen Avenue during a burglary that took place Monday afternoon (Nov. 21), Lawrence Township police said.

It was 4:54 p.m. Monday when a resident called police to report that she had arrived home to find her bedroom and her children’s rooms in disarray, with numerous items out of place and several things missing, police spokesman Lt. Charles Edgar said.

He said the burglary is believed to have taken place sometime between 2:30 p.m. and when the woman returned home on Helen Avenue after 4 p.m. It was not immediately clear how the burglar gained entry to the residence, he said.

Police were notified of the break-in at Radio Shack at 3:43 a.m. Monday, as previously reported. A list of property stolen from the store is not yet available, Edgar said.

He added that police are still working to determine if the minivan they found at the shopping center – and impounded as part of their investigation – is connected to the burglary.

At 11:49 a.m. Monday, employees at Norman’s Hallmark card store in the shopping center reported to police that they had discovered signs that someone had tried to pry open the store’s rear door sometime between 5 p.m. Sunday and early Monday morning, Edgar said.

He said no entry was made to the card store and nothing was stolen.
