Former Sickles owner Bob Sickles, Jr. abruptly closed the market in February 2024; he filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May of that year, saying he was $7.5 million in debt.
1663 Partners was formed by three Rumson residents who proposed purchasing all of of Sickles' assets, including the market building itself, the five acres on which the market sits and the nursery, and reopen the gourmet food store.
This week, a U.S. bankruptcy court judge approved the purchase, the Asbury Park Press reported. The sale of Sickles Market is expected to be finalized in the next 45 to 60 days.
Sickles, Jr., his daughters Tori and Sasha Sickles and former Sickles market manager Maria Carrigan were all hired to work at the new market.
The Asbury Park Press reported this week that once the sale goes through, Sickles' creditors are supposed to all be paid, and his former employees will be paid full back wages and two weeks of severance.
