New Student Drop-off Policy In Place For Point Road School

Parents will no longer be able to enter the school when dropping off their children.

A new student drop-off policy has been instituted at Point Road School in Little Silver.

Superintendent Carolyn Kossack said in a letter to parents that parents are now prohibited from entering the building when dropping off their children.

"We continually re-evaluate safety and security procedures for the district in order to keep your students safe," Kossack said in her letter. "Therefore, this year and moving forward, we opted not to open the doors for parents to escort their children to their classrooms, which has historically resulted in hundreds of adults roaming through the hallways."

Kossack said the change worked well for the first day of school.

"This year we did not have any crying students (only tearful parents)," she said.

She said Dr. Albert Devine addressed student drop-off procedures with incoming kindergarten parents and new parents to the district during her orientation session, but that the rest of the parents were not informed.
