Oceanport Cares Updates Residents on Sandy Recovery Effort

Residents are encouraged to aid in recovery process

Oceanport Cares recently updated borough residents on the steps it is taking to help those still ailing from Hurricane Sandy.

The organization sent out the following email to Oceanport residents this week:

From Oceanport Cares to our Community,

It’s been a long six month since Sandy changed the lives of many of our families, friends and neighbors. Oceanport Cares and Oceanport Emergency Management have been working with several groups to provide what assistance we could to restore homes, provide food, clothing, staples, furniture and make life easier with counseling and support efforts. Grants have just started to be available to provide help in rebuilding, restoring and elevating homes

We have actually been in Long Term Recovery and that will continue for some time. The work is not over in rebuilding our lives and the community. We still have much to accomplish and people will still need help.

Oceanport Cares has joined with Save the Jersey Shore Foundation, a group of people that have funding and resources. They have actually “adopted” Oceanport after we provided information about what we have been doing. They now stand ready to help. But they can’t do it all and still need us to be an active participant in getting Oceanport back to normal.

That’s why you are getting this e-mail. Quite frankly, we need more help to support those people who have been working since we started and now with Save the Jersey Shore, we need people to help get the job done. This could be an organization you are associated with, those members might want to take up the cause.

Here are some of the functions we will need help with:

Assessments of yard clean ups

Serving as a representative to Monmouth County Long Term Recovery and other assisting organizations

Assessing Business needs of community

Delivery/coordination of supply material for sheetrock, flooring and insulation.

Staffing Strawberry festival information table at fair.

People to write Thank You notes.

Information for Save the Jersey Shore-fundraising events for summer July 12th, Aug 3rd.

There will be a meeting on Wednesday, June 5th, 6:30 PM at the Community Center and we ask you to attend. We think you can help us make a difference and join the effort to make Oceanport whole.

Thank you for your prior efforts and we hope for your participation.
