Soldiers' Memorials Will Be 'Respectfully' Moved So Netflix Can Widen The Avenue Of Memories
Starting this week, Netflix will begin widening the Avenue of Memories in Oceanport, and adding sidewalks alongside it.

OCEANPORT, NJ — Starting this week, Netflix will begin making roadway improvements to the Avenue of Memories, the road that runs along the perimeter of its film studio campus in Oceanport.
Netflix is required to do the work to accommodate the expected increased traffic flow for when their film studios open.
Netflix will be making the road wider, adding new sidewalks, adding shoulders to the road and, most importantly, adding a dedicated center turn lane so cars can turn into studio lots.

However, because of the work, the 117 U.S. war memorials that currently line the Avenue of Memories (and the origin of the road's name) have to be relocated.
The war memorials honor members of the U.S. Army Signal Corps who were killed in action during World War II. Monmouth County announced Tuesday that all 117 memorials will be permanently and respectfully relocated to Cowan Park, located at the corner of Avenue of Memories and Oceanport Avenue.

The 117 memorials will be placed alongside the existing flagpole and two memorial trees that are already there.
Construction on Netflix's first four studios at Fort Monmouth is expected to start by early 2026. Netflix expects its first four studios will open in 2027.
"The county has worked closely with Netflix, local officials and veterans’ organizations to ensure that this transition is handled with the utmost care and attention," said Monmouth County Commissioner Director Tom Arnone. "Each memorial will be carefully moved and reinstalled to preserve its historical integrity and significance. The Avenue of Memories holds deep significance for so many, and we are committed to ensuring that the memory of the U.S. Army Signal Corps soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice continues to be recognized with the honor and respect they deserve."
The relocation process is expected to take several weeks to complete. Once the work is finished, a re-dedication ceremony will be held to commemorate the memorials’ new home at Cowan Park in Oceanport. That ceremony will be in November; stay tuned for details to be announced.
"I want to thank Netflix, the Borough of Oceanport, and our local veterans’ groups for working together to make this relocation possible," said Arnone. "By bringing these memorials together in one location, we are ensuring that the courage and sacrifice of the U.S. Army Signal Corps will continue to be remembered by future generations.”
