Support For Little Silver Toddler Girl, 2, Battling Cancer

This Little Silver toddler, whose mother teaches first grade at Point Road Elementary, is battling a rare form of liver cancer:

LITTLE SILVER, NJ — Family members created this GoFundMe page for a Little Silver toddler who is currently battling an extremely rare form of liver cancer.

The little girl is Avery Cuffari, age 2, and her parents are Ashley and John Cuffari, who live in Little Silver, according to a family friend who requested their story be shared on Patch.

Avery's mother, Ashley, is a first grade teacher at Point Road Elementary School in Little Silver.

"Avery Grace was born a fighter. She came into this world at 26 weeks, weighing just two pounds, one ounce. The first 96 days of her life were spent in the NICU and, while fighting to live, she survived sepsis and E-coli infections. All during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. She's tougher than most adults I know," wrote Lindsay Fisher, sister to Avery's mother.

This summer, on June 23, her parents received a terrifying call: Their little girl needed to be rushed to the ER after doctors found two masses on her liver.

Avery has since been diagnosed with an extremely rare liver cancer called hepatoblastoma and has begun treatment at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Due to the size of Avery’s tumor, she will first receive chemotherapy, then undergo surgery to remove the tumor, followed by additional chemotherapy, wrote her sister.

The GoFundMe has now been created to help the Cuffaris pay for medical costs and their frequent travel expenses to Philadelphia and overnight hotel stays in Philadelphia.

"Despite everything Avery has been through in her two years of life, she is one of the happiest, fun-loving, and sweetest toddlers you will ever know. She will greet you with a smile and never misses the chance to say goodbye with a hug or a kiss. She shares all of her toys, makes anyone and everyone feel like family and has such an adventurous spirit — which makes her a bit of a rascal at times given her tendency to steal car keys and wallets when no one is looking!"

"Their family has already been through so much, but this kid is tough, and we know she'll fight this with all she's got," read the page. "Any support, big or small, can make a difference for Avery and her family and is appreciated more than words can say! Thank you all for your prayers, thoughts and love for Avery Grace."
