As part of the award-winning initiative, LPS staff formally recognized that Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), and prompt-engineering tools are essential skills for future success. The District’s initiative establishes a comprehensive framework for both educators and students that is built on two core principles:
- Recognizing AI's Transformative Value: Articulating guidance that acknowledges the immense impact of AI.
- Emphasizing Ethical Use: Fostering AI literacy by instilling principles of responsible integration and ethical deployment. This includes crucial lessons on AI's multifaceted societal implications, such as bias, within educational contexts.
Another key component of the initiative is the new semester-long course at Livingston High School: "Innovating With AI."

This course provides students with hands-on experience in applying AI principles specifically within the context of business. Students first build a foundational understanding of AI's history and ethics. They then dive into real-world applications, exploring how AI is impacting areas like:
● Sales and Marketing
● Social Media Strategy
● Customer Interactions
The course culminates with students developing a real-world portfolio where they demonstrate practical AI applications for a business of their choice.
“This award is a testament to our Curriculum Department's commitment to constantly researching new technology and integrating it into our programs in a meaningful way. It is vital that our students learn this technology in a safe academic environment,” said Dr. Daniel Fishbein, Interim Superintendent of Schools.
Mark Stern, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Technology, added, “This recognition celebrates the cross-departmental dedication to meeting the challenge of this evolving, innovative work, led by Teresa Rehman, Director of Technology, and Rob Rolling, K-12 Supervisor of Business, Media, and Technology.”
The award will be presented to LPS at The Essex County School Boards Association (ECSBA) Meeting on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Millburn High School.
