Homeowner Thwarts Break-In Attempt on E. Northfield Ave.
Resident saw two men trying to pry open a rear door late Friday afternoon, police said.

A Livingston resident saw two men try to break into his home this weekend, according to police.
Around 5 p.m. on Friday, a male resident living on the 200-block of E. Northfield Avenue heard a loud banging sound coming from the laundry room door leading into his basement, according to Livingston Police. A few minutes later, he saw two men attempting to pry open a rear sliding door.
The homeowner told police the two men fled once they had seen him in his home. Police found the resident’s laundry room door bent and believe the two men tried to kick it in.

Livingston Police contacted Essex County Sheriff’s Department who brought in its K-9 Unit. The K-9 Unit lost the scent and police believe the two men fled the neighborhood in a car.
The attempted break-in is still under investigation, said Livingston Police Sgt. Anthony Dippold.
