Livingston High School Named 16th Best in the State

NJ Monthly has released its list of The Best Public Schools in New Jersey, with Livingston High School making the top 20.

Livingston has once again proven that when it comes to public education, this community’s superior school system is running at the front of the pack. This year, Livingston High School is ranked as the number 16 school in a state that boasts nearly 450 public high schools. LHS has moved up two notches from it’s number 18 ranking in 2012 after failing to make the top 20 in years prior.

This week, New Jersey Monthly, the state’s largest general interest magazine, released it’s list of the Top Public High Schools in New Jersey, with fellow Essex County school, Millburn High School, also landing a prominent place on the list.

New Jersey Monthly reported that its rankings are complied by Leflein Associates, an independent research company in Ringwood, New Jersey. The results are determined by data gathered from the 2012-2013 school year by the New Jersey Department of Education. In order to determine which schools come out on top, the experts consider elements such as student/teacher ratio, test scores, and graduation rates.

This year’s rankings also calculated a high school’s ability to prepare its students for college by looking at SAT scores and the percentage of students enrolled in college within a 16 month time frame post-graduation.

“We specifically added these new data points to our scoring system to help identify the high schools that are doing the best job in preparing their students for success at the college level,” New Jersey Monthly editor Ken Schlager said.
