According to a news release from the township, the annual ceremony offers a chance to reflect on the tragedy that happened – and how it continues to affect Livingston residents to this day:

“While the attacks themselves occurred 24 years ago, their consequences are still felt each day. America has made important gains in security since 2001. However, some of those gains have come at the cost of personal freedom, as demonstrated by the heavy screenings and regulations implemented at airports and experienced upon entering many public buildings. Every day, the families and friends of those taken on 9/11 mourn the loss of their loved ones and all their lives could have been.”
