Livingston To Hold Electronics Recycling Event

Residents can bring their electronics and paper to the Livingston Senior/Community Center from 9 am – 2 pm on Saturday, March 25.

From the Township of Livingston: Saturday, March 25, will be the first Electronics Recycling and Paper Shredding Event of 2017 sponsored by the Township of Livingston. This offers residents a safe way to dispose of unwanted electronic items.

Residents can bring their electronics and paper to the Livingston Senior/Community Center at 204 Hillside Avenue from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 25.

Please stay in your car and drive slowly through the parking lot.

Volunteers from will be on hand to answer questions and assist with the recycling and paper shredding.

Electronics Recycling:

  • Phones and Computers: Wipe memory before recycling. Find resources for e-cycling and data wipe on the Township’s Recycling webpage at www.livingstonnj.org.
  • No Broken Screens: TVs or monitors with broken glass are considered Household Hazardous Waste.
  • Do Not Bring: smoke detectors, CFL or fluorescent tube light bulbs, car batteries, or other household hazardous materials at this event. Those items can be brought to the Essex County Utilities Authority’s next Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on: Saturday, 8:30am – 4:00pm, May 6, 2017, at 125 Fairview Avenue (next to Old Hospital Center), Cedar Grove, NJ 07009. Early Drop Off for Electronics Only: Residents who cannot attend the event on Saturday, March 25, may drop off their electronics early, in Craft Room 1 on the lower level of the Senior/Community Center.
Early Drop Off is allowed on: Thursday, March 23, from 3:00 pm – 10:00 pm and Friday, March 24, from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. There will be a cart in the lower lobby of the building that residents may use to bring their electronics to Craft Room 1 in the Senior/Community Center.

Paper Shredding:
  • Confidential documents only: No books or newspapers.
  • There is a limit of 5 boxes per household of papers to be shredded.
  • Do Not Bring: three-ring binders, paper clips, CDs, computer disks, pendaflex-type folders and other fastened documents cannot be accepted for shredding. Only residential shredding will be accepted, and no home-based businesses or institutions will be allowed.
Reminder: Under the Township’s recycling ordinance and New Jersey State law, it is mandatory to recycle electronic items properly. They cannot be placed at the curb for pickup.
