The Township of Livingston has introduced the Hometown Heroes Program, a meaningful way to honor and recognize current and former Livingston residents who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

Through this program, the township will display commemorative banners throughout town as a living tribute to the brave men and women of Livingston who have selflessly served our country. Each banner celebrates a specific individual, featuring their name, photo, branch of service, and era of service.

“Livingston has always been a community that honors service and sacrifice,” said Tony Ciccone, Commander of Livingston’s VFW Post 2856. “The Hometown Heroes banners will serve as a daily reminder of our neighbors who wore the uniform and stood up for the freedoms we all enjoy. It’s an incredible way for future generations to see the faces and names of real heroes from right here in town.”

For the inaugural program period, each of the 45 banners will be displayed during the two years from November 2025 to November 2027, or until it shows signs of wear, after which it will be returned to the sponsor. The next program period is scheduled to begin in 2028.

Township Manager Barry Lewis noted that the program reflects the Township’s ongoing commitment to community pride and civic engagement.

“This initiative allows residents, families, and businesses to come together to recognize those who have served,” Lewis said. “It’s a simple but powerful way to make our appreciation visible every day as people drive through Livingston.”

Mayor Ed Meinhardt expressed his gratitude to the VFW and the community for making the program possible.

“Our veterans represent the very best of Livingston,” Mayor Meinhardt said. “These banners will tell their stories in a way that inspires all of us — a constant reminder that the strength of our town comes from those who have given so much for our country.”
