Livingston’s Newark Academy Commits Eight Seniors to NCAA Athletics
Livingston resident Ayanna Varma will play tennis at Williams College next year.

Livingston, NJ — Eight members of Newark Academy’s (NA) Class of 2025, including Ayanna Varma of Livingston, have committed to playing their respective sports at the collegiate level.
NA — an independent school for grades 6-12 in Livingston, NJ — celebrated five NCAA Division I and three Division III commitments through various signing day ceremonies.
Varma, a Division III commit to Williams College for tennis, is excited to continue her athletic career at the collegiate level. “This reflects the years of hard work I’ve dedicated to pursuing excellence in my sport and gives me an amazing platform to keep growing as a student-athlete — learning important lessons both on and off the court,” she says. “I’m incredibly grateful for the journey so far and am so excited for what’s ahead!”

NA’s Division I signings include Arjun Caprihan to the University of Pennsylvania for golf, Jaeden Henry to the New Jersey Institute of Technology for track and field, Anousheh Reid to Cornell University for fencing, Noah Shoman to the University of Notre Dame for fencing and Zachary Shoman to Duke University for fencing.
In addition to Varma, NA’s Division III commitments include Phoebe Kaplan to Case Western Reserve University for swimming and Michael Cetrulo to Wesleyan University for wrestling.

Located in Livingston, NJ, Newark Academy Minutemen Athletics hosts 25 varsity teams on its 68-acre campus. With about 81 percent of Upper School students participating in sports, Newark Academy Athletics aims to provide a competitive and enriching experience for its student-athletes. During their time at Newark Academy, these student-athletes have helped win a cumulative one Tournament of Champions title, three state, 10 conference, six county and eight Prep titles to date.
