LIVINGSTON, NJ — Want to attend an in-person meeting of the Livingston Board of Education? There are some new COVID-19 policies you should familiarize yourself with, its members announced Tuesday.

During their Sept. 28 meeting, board members confirmed they will begin holding in-person public meetings at the board’s administrative office, 11 Foxcroft Drive, starting on Tuesday, Oct. 12.

After considering “physical space constraints and recommended COVID-19 protocols,” board members plan to roll out several new procedures that they say will help ensure “safe and efficient meetings.”

FACE MASK REQUIREMENT – “Those who attend in-person must wear a mask that covers their mouth and nose while in the building. Any individual who is not willing to comply with these masking rules prior to entrance or while in the meeting will not be permitted to enter the facility or remain in the meeting in-person.”

SECURITY – “Security personnel will be present to monitor the flow of traffic, ensure compliance with COVID-19 protocols, and verify the required identification and vaccination documentation.”

LIMITED ATTENDANCE – “While registration for in-person attendance at LBOE meetings will be limited to the first 20 individuals who sign-up, the board will continue to allow members of the public to participate virtually via webinar. In addition, the public will still be able to view a livestream of the meeting on the district’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/LivSchools.”

For those who want to attend an in-person meeting, here’s what you’ll need to do, the board said:

“An in-person registration form will be available to the public one week prior to the scheduled meeting date. If a new LBOE meeting is scheduled and advertised with less than one week’s notice, registration will open simultaneously with the advertising of said meeting. The registration form will be sent to the community via email, as well as posted on the district website, https://www.livingston.org/. The first 20 registrants will be allowed to attend the meeting in-person. All registrants in excess of 20 will be placed on a waiting list and contacted if space becomes available. Registrants will be notified of their status via email. On the form, registrants will be asked to attest that they will not attend a board meeting if they have tested positive or been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, or if they are experiencing certain COVID-19 related symptoms. Members of the public who register to attend in person and arrive at an LBOE meeting with any of the conditions mentioned on the form may be excluded from the meeting.”

The new meeting guidelines are outlined in Policy #0167.1, which was reviewed by the board during its meeting on Tuesday. The board will vote on the policy at its meeting on Oct. 12.
