NEW JERSEY, NJ — Another round of anti-Trump protests is taking place in New Jersey, this time on the president’s birthday.

“No Kings” protests are being planned across the nation for Saturday, June 14, according to an online database. The rallies are being organized independently across the nation by local advocacy groups and community members.

Protests and rallies are currently listed for the following towns and cities in New Jersey: Asbury Park, Atlantic City, Bernards, Bloomfield, Bridgewater, Caldwell, Franklin Township, Glen Ridge, Haddon Township, Hamilton Township, Highland Park, Jersey City, Lacey Township, Lambertville, Lyons, Middle Township, Milford, Millville, Monroe Township, Montclair, Morristown, Mountainside, New Providence, Newark, Newton, North Plainfield, Ocean City, Paramus, Pennington, Pequannock, Perth Amboy, Piscataway, Princeton, Rahway, Rutherford, Somerville, South Orange, Springfield, Teaneck, Toms River, Trenton, Warren County, Weehawken and Woolwich Township.

The protests are being timed for President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday. A massive military parade is also taking place in Washington D.C. on June 14, although Trump has said the event is meant to celebrate 250 years of the U.S. Army and Flag Day – not necessarily his birthday.

Reports have estimated that it will cost between $25 million and $45 million to host the event. A White House spokesperson recently said the expenses will be shared by the Department of the Army and the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission.

Organizers referenced the upcoming parade in their latest rallying cry:

“On June 14—Flag Day—President Trump wants tanks in the street and a made-for-TV display of dominance for his birthday. A spectacle meant to look like strength. But real power isn’t staged in Washington. It rises up everywhere else. No Kings is a nationwide day of defiance. From city blocks to small towns, from courthouse steps to community parks, we’re taking action to reject authoritarianism—and show the world what democracy really looks like. We’re not gathering to feed his ego. We’re building a movement that leaves him behind. The flag doesn’t belong to President Trump. It belongs to us. We’re not watching history happen. We’re making it. On June 14, we’re showing up everywhere he isn’t—to say no thrones, no crowns, no kings.”

The 50501 movement – one of several groups that have been publicizing the nationwide June 14 protests – said they are calling for demonstrators to commit to “inclusivity, non-violence and conflict resolution.”

The upcoming "No Kings" demonstrations have gained additional steam following a weekend of protests in Los Angeles, California, which is bracing for more civil unrest in the aftermath of federal immigration raids and Trump's decision to send National Guard and Marines to the city.

Trump has insisted that a nationwide crackdown is needed to push back against a “large-scale invasion” of illegal immigration.

“This cannot stand,” the president said after being inaugurated for his second term. “A nation without borders is not a nation, and the federal government must act with urgency and strength to end the threats posed by an unsecured border.”

WAVE OF PROTESTS CONTINUES

A series of protests have been taking place against the Trump administration and the ongoing federal budget cuts since the president took office.

More than 1,200 rallies of various sizes took place across the United States on April 5, with some sources estimating the overall attendance for the "Hands Off!" protests at over a million people. Another round of demonstrations took place on April 19.

A third major wave of protests happened on May 1, with two candidates for New Jersey governor attending rallies in North Jersey.

New Jersey has also seen demonstrations in support of Trump, including a rally organized by Republican voters prior to the president’s Election Day victory.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris took New Jersey in the 2024 presidential election, nailing down 2,220,713 votes (52 percent). Trump was close behind, scoring 1,968,215 votes – about 46.1 percent.

Trump performed much better on a statewide basis in last November’s election, however, flipping five New Jersey counties from blue to red.
