Accountant Stole Nearly $500K From Ocean Twp. Employer, Prosecutor Charges

The company contacted the county prosecutor, after it was discovered money was missing while Joe Hardoon worked as their bookkeeper.

OCEAN TOWNSHIP, NJ — A man from Valley Stream, New York is accused of stealing nearly $500,000 from his Ocean-Township-based employer, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago announced Tuesday.

Joseph Hardoon, 28, was charged with second-degree theft by unlawful taking.

The Ocean Twp. business was not named, as it is considered a crime victim and thus, entitled to privacy.

But it was Hardoon's former employer that contacted the county prosecutor, after it was discovered that money was missing while Hardoon was working as their bookkeeper. Between 2021 and 2024 Hardoon is accused of stealing $497,500 from the company.

Hardoon was arrested and charged Monday and released on a summons, pending future court proceedings in Monmouth County Superior Court.
